Dynamic wrinkles are a sign of aging, and many people don’t feel their best when they walk past a mirror and see lines and wrinkles all over their faces. Especially in Nashville, where everyone wants to look their best.

Nashville, Tennessee is called Music City for a reason. Between the live music bars downtown on Broadway, the classic country music from the Grand Ole Opry, and the rising generation of music stars in and around Nashville, if you’re in music, Nashville is the place to be. Many music legends have either called Nashville home. With all this fame and fortune going around, it’s also a city where you want to look your best.

BOTOX® injections have helped thousands of people smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, as well as fight off dynamic wrinkles that become more prominent with age.

What Are Dynamic Wrinkles?

Dynamic wrinkles are caused by facial expressions and will go away once you stop expressing the emotion. However, dynamic wrinkles will become static wrinkles over time after repeated facial expressions.

The formation of static wrinkles in place of dynamic wrinkles is caused by the natural aging process. As we age, the elasticity of our skin starts breaking down as our collagen and elastin levels decrease. The more we make certain facial expressions, the more pronounced certain wrinkles will become. And the more these wrinkles show up, the less young and vibrant we’ll appear.

Can Static Wrinkles from Dynamic Wrinkles Go Away?

Sadly, because dynamic facial lines and wrinkles are a part of the natural aging process, they won’t go away on their own. Neither can dynamic wrinkles be treated with topical creams, because dynamic wrinkles are not a topical problem.

These wrinkles develop because the muscles that help us make facial expressions are also causing our skin to bunch together when we smile, frown, laugh or cry. As a result, the only way to treat these wrinkles is to treat the muscles at their source. This is where BOTOX® comes into play.

How Do I Get Rid of Dynamic Wrinkles?

BOTOX® serves as an inhibitor for the neural signals transmitted by the brain to the muscles in the treated area. After your injections have been administered, they will prevent the muscles in the treated area from contracting as hard as they did prior to treatment.

Notice that we did not say your facial muscles will stop contracting. Contrary to popular belief, BOTOX® injections don’t leave you with a frozen face. All it does is prevent your muscles from fully contracting. As a result, your expressions will be less intense, and with fewer lines and dynamic wrinkles than before.

Are BOTOX® Injections Effective?

Many people in Nashville have made BOTOX® injections a normal part of their beauty routine. One of the reasons Nashvillians get regular treatments is because they’re quick to administer and easy to tolerate. At Garza Plastic Surgery, we use the finest needles when we give facial injections, so there is minimal discomfort.

Secondly, treatments only take a few minutes, so they’re easy to fit into a busy schedule. Plus, treatments are effective for months at a time. And yet another bonus is there’s no downtime to your treatments, so you can jump right back into your regular activities.

Finally, BOTOX® provides very natural-looking results. You look more refreshed, and you don’t even look like you’ve had work done!

Are Dynamic Wrinkles Permanent?

The reason they’re called dynamic wrinkles is that they only form when you make facial expressions. For example, when you’re not smiling, laughing, crying, or angry, your muscles relax and those lines will go away. But as we mentioned earlier, they can become permanent as you age.

Does Retinol Help With Dynamic Wrinkles?

Retinols are typically used to help reduce the intensity of fine lines and wrinkles. Retinols are cleansers that stimulate your skin’s cell production rate so it pushes out old and dead skin with fresh new skin.

They also help improve collagen production in the skin which can help reduce the depth and intensity of dynamic wrinkles. However, because dynamic wrinkles are caused by facial expressions, retinols won’t make them go away completely. But, if lines and wrinkles are forming around your normal expression lines, retinoids can help fight those off.

What Works Best for Frowns?

Frowns are typically caused by lifestyle habits along with the normal aging process. One of the best ways to prevent frown lines is to smile more. But, it’s also more than that. Frown lines can bounce back easily if you take good care of your skin. In order to keep your skin’s natural elasticity, do the following:

  • Keep your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water and using moisturizer daily.
  • Make sure you’re getting enough sleep regularly to help your body repair and restore itself.
  • Wear sunscreen every day so you can protect your skin from sun damage.
  • Use an exfoliant as part of your normal skincare routine at least twice a week.

Types of Dynamic Wrinkles

Frown Lines, Forehead Wrinkles, or Horizontal Forehead Lines

These lines form on the forehead when the muscles in the brow knit together and tense up. Usually, this happens when you’re trying to express worry, concern, displeasure, or sadness. Another term for these lines could be a furrowed brow.

Elevens/Glabellar Frowns

These are the lines that form above your nose and in between your eyebrows. Most people only see two perpendicular horizontal lines form between their eyebrows, hence the nickname “elevens.”

Crows Feet/Periorbital Lines

These lines form around the eyes over time. These are the thin lines that appear under the eyes and around the corners of your eyes when smiling, squinting, or otherwise showing emotion. They are typically the first type of lines to form on your face due to the thinness of your skin around the eyes and the frequent use of the muscles around your eyes.

Smile Lines

Nasolabial Folds/Cheek Folds

These are the lines that run from the corners of your nostrils to the corners of your mouth. These folds are most pronounced when you smile, and they become more obvious with age.

Corner of the Mouth Lines

There are some lines that can extend from the corner of the upper lip towards the cheek without becoming marionette lines. These lines might run into the nasolabial folds and will become more noticeable with age.

Marionette Lines

Not to be confused with the nasolabial folds, these lines extend from the lower corners of your mouth down to either side of the chin. Similar to how a marionette’s mouth is framed. Hence the name.

Smoker’s Lines/Upper Lip Lines

These lines are formed from continuously pursing the lips. They are vertical lines that are most noticeable above the lips, and also become more prominent with age. You don’t have to be a smoker to get smoker’s lines, but if you do smoke, you will most likely see them sooner than if you don’t.

Laugh Lines

This is actually a blanket name for several lines that occur on your face when you laugh. This group of lines includes the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and crow feet.

Accordion Lines

These are the lines that form on your cheeks when your smile. They occur on the cheeks after the nasolabial folds and usually occur in a series. As a result, they look like the multiple lines of an accordion’s bellows.

Bunny Lines

These are a group of lines that form on either side of the nose. If you’ve ever heard the expression, “wrinkle your nose,” that’s what causes these lines. These are the lines that form when you might be showing a kid how a bunny wrinkles its nose. Otherwise, these lines can occur if you smile more with your mid-facial muscles, or make very exuberant expressions.

Turkey Neck/Neck Folds

These lines don’t form as much from facial expressions, but more from the aging process. As elastin and collagen break down, the skin under your neck will start to deteriorate, forming the skin folds that stretch from under your jaw down to your neck.

Preauricular Lines

These are the lines that form on the jawline next to the ears and in front of the earlobes.

Chin Crease

This is a line or a group of lines that form in the mid-way point between your chin and your lower lip. If you tend to make exaggerated frowns or serious expressions, you may have a bunch of knots and wrinkles that form around your chin.
