When it comes to breasts, butts, lips and overall body shape– is bigger still going to be better in 2023 or is “au natural” going to be the sought-after appearance?

Here at Garza Plastic Surgery in Nashville, we think you should rock whatever structure and shape you like and believe best suits your face and body. But let’s face it, influencers influence people, and with that comes predictions of what will be the hottest cosmetic treatment and plastic surgery trends of the year.

In past years, most A-listers appeared to have heavily filled lips, minimal facial movement, large breasts and prominent bookshelf buttocks. But recently, there has been a shift in shape. More and more beauty influencers are opting for less curvaceousness and a more natural look, resulting in a change in what plastic surgeons expect to be the most sought-after cosmetic surgeries in 2023.

But it’s not only the rich and famous swaying these predictions. Read on to learn more about what cosmetic surgeries are expected to be in high demand this year and why that’s the case.

2023 Plastic Surgery Trend #1

Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)

Evidently, very few women are naturally blessed with an itty bitty waist, flat stomach, curvy hips and voluptuous rear end. But thanks to celebs that have this highly desired shape, like Kim Kardashian (who went to great lengths to prove her bum is natural), tens of thousands of women with flat bottom genetics are curious about how the Brazilian butt lift (BBL) can help them achieve a larger and rounder derriere.

Statistics show that the BBL was the fastest-growing plastic surgery in 2019. It hasn’t slowed down since and doesn’t appear to be anywhere any time soon. However, it does seem that this popular procedure is getting a makeover.

Curves are still in, and butt lifts are still booming, but Kim K’s extra large bookshelf bottom isn’t what we expect people to ask for in 2023. Instead, we predict patients will request something called the “Skinny BBL,” – which only slightly enhances the size of your rear end or “hip dips.”

Whether you wanna go big or keep things on the smaller side, there are two primary augmentation options most certified plastic surgeons offer to patients that desire the derriere-enhancing procedure; implants and fat transfer.

  • Implants: Butt implants are created from durable, semi-solid silicone gel that has a very minimal chance of rupturing. A certified plastic surgeon makes small incisions in a crease near the buttocks. Implants are positioned on top of the glute muscles through these insertion points.

Any healthy person of any body type that desires a larger bottom is a candidate, as fat transfer is not required.

  • Fat Transfer: Fat grafting or fat transfer is used to add volume and a more desirable shape to the buttocks. It consists of a two-step process using liposuction to gently remove excess fat from areas such as the abdomen or thighs and injecting the purified fat, through a series of microinjections, into the buttocks and hips.Unfortunately, this technique can’t be used if an individual is very thin and doesn’t have sufficient body fat.

Which Butt Augmentation Technique Is Best?

There are pros and cons with each butt augmentation method that patients should consider before going under the knife. Furthermore, some patients might not be eligible for both techniques.

  • Safety: Of course, there are risks with any surgery. That said, both methods are considered safe if you are in the hands of a qualified, highly trained, and experienced board-certified plastic surgeon. Of the two, fat transfer is typically deemed safer since there is no risk of toxicity or allergic reactions since a foreign substance is not being introduced to the body.
  • Results: Implants have the upper hand if you hope for guaranteed long-lasting results. This is because fat injections can be partially reabsorbed, which means the results may not be as dramatic or predictable as those achieved with butt implants. That said, fat transfer tends to look and feel more natural since this technique utilizes the patient’s own body tissue.
  • Recovery – Downtime is significantly less for fat transfer compared to butt implants. If you opt for fat transfer, recovery time is about two weeks. With implants, it may take as long as 4-6 weeks to resume normal day-to-day activities, including sitting and exercise.
  • Discomfort – While the fat transfer method does cause a little bit of temporary discomfort, most patients say the pain is very tolerable. With implants, due to the insertion of large objects in a sensitive area with lots of movement, patients tend to experience more discomfort.

In 2023 we predict that most women will choose fat transfer when considering butt augmentation and opt for a “Skinny BBL.” Much of the reason is that it seems “thin is in,” meaning some women will be dieting and lowering their body fat and might not have enough fat to transfer.

2023 Plastic Surgery Trend #2

Breast Augmentation

For decades, breast implant surgery has been one of the most popular procedures, especially in Nashville. Which btw, can we please get confirmation on the Taylor Swift boob debate that’s been ongoing for years? The music city superstar continues to deny that she has had breast enlargement surgery, but fans and plastic surgery experts believe the opposite.

Whether people want to admit they’ve had a boob job or not, breast implant surgery has always been one of, if not the, most requested cosmetic surgeries nationwide, and we predict that will continue in 2023.

When it comes to size and shape, trends are constantly fluctuating. This year, just as the size of Brazilian butt lifts are expected to shrink, we also expect to see a deflation in breast size. Extreme-looking Pamela Anderson sized breasts are no doubt being replaced with a “mini boob job,” which provides a more natural aesthetic that is proportionate with a patient’s body frame.

Big or small, if breast augmentation is on your wish list for 2023, you have several implant styles to choose from.

  • Gummy Bear Breast Implants
  • Saline Breast Implants
  • Silicone Breast Implants
  • Smooth Breast Implants

Gummy bear implants have been the most popular implant for several years. We expect that to remain the same in 2023. We also expect more and more women to request a breast lift or internal bra surgery in addition to breast augmentation.

In addition to styles of implants, you also have different placement and incision options. Incisions can be done in the crease under the breast, in the armpit, around the nipple, or through the belly button. Implants can be placed under the pectoral muscle or over the pectoral muscle.

Additionally, with “smaller” being in and “bigger” being out, some patients who opted for large implants in years past are looking at either having their implants removed and possibly having a minor fat grafting and breast lift or replacing them with smaller implants.

Which Breast Augmentation Style and Technique Is Best?

There really isn’t a “best” choice regarding breast augmentation. It comes down to personal preference. If you are considering enhancing or changing your breast size in 2023, our experienced staff here at Garza Plastic Surgery would love to help you decide which implant style, size, and insertion and placement method are best for you and your body.

2023 Plastic Surgery Trend #3

Liposuction

Body contouring isn’t going anywhere in 2023, especially with people desiring a smaller, more athletic physique. We predict liposuction will be the preferred approach for those seeking to achieve fat reduction faster and easier or those that have tried to diet and exercise but still can’t seem to get rid of stubborn fat deposits.

Lipo has always been a popular cosmetic surgery procedure, but in recent years, patients have leaned toward liposuction alternatives, such as skin-tightening procedures like BodyTite, Kybella and Morpheus8. These face and body contouring treatments typically do not require an incision or anesthesia, often come with less downtime, and generally are less expensive. While non-invasive fat reduction procedures are still great options, in 2023, liposuction is predicted to make a major comeback.

The main reason lipo is predicted to rise in popularity in 2023 is actually the economy. Due to a looming recession, it is believed that liposuction (along with breast augmentations) will be on the rise because of longevity compared to other body contouring options that do not have as long-lasting results.

Liposuction is generally safe and very effective, provides more dramatic results than other non-invasive fat reduction procedures, and the results are usually permanent. That said, if you do not maintain a healthy lifestyle after the surgery, the fat will most likely return.

Which Fat Reduction Method Is Best?

Whether it comes from a persistent stomach “pooch” after pregnancy, areas of fat on your hips that won’t budge, or back or bra bulges, localized fat can be challenging to get rid of permanently. Liposuction is an excellent option for reducing these larger deposits of excess fat and can significantly improve your figure in several areas at once.

The best way to choose between liposuction or other less permanent body fat reduction methods, such as BodyTite, is to seek the advice of a board-certified cosmetic surgeon. Our staff at Garza Plastic Surgery would love to walk you through your options during a personalized cosmetic surgery consultation to help you determine which fat-reduction method is the best fit for you.

2023 Plastic Surgery Trend #4

Eyelid Lifts and Brow Lifts

Filler fatigue is on the rise. People of all ages are learning that while dermal fillers and Botox certainly provide amazing results, they have limits. For that reason, we expect to see a surge in eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty) and brow lifts in 2023.

Injectables such as Juvéderm and Botox are excellent for preventing and erasing fine lines and wrinkles, and dermal fillers are great for adding volume and lift, but they come with limitations, particularly when it comes to treating concerns in the eye area.

People often want more drastic results that can’t be achieved with filler and botox without looking overly filled or completely frozen. For patients desiring a slightly more dramatic (yet natural) and longer-lasting effect, eyelid and brow lifts are excellent options for facial rejuvenation.

Whether you have hooding of your lids, puffiness, or severe horizontal lines on your brows or forehead that give off the appearance of a not-so-friendly face, an eyelid lift or brow lift offer a long-lasting rejuvenated appearance without looking “overdone.”

Another reason we expect to see a rise in these cosmetic surgical procedures for the eyes is that people are starting to realize they aren’t reserved for mature skin. Eyelid and brow lifts are great options for patients in their late 30s and 40s that are just beginning to see the effects of aging.

Should I Choose An Eyelid Lift, Brow Lift, Injectables, or Dermal Fillers?

It really depends on your areas of concern and your goals. Injectables and dermal fillers are still excellent choices for those that want a non-permanent, subtle change. However, suppose you find yourself over-filling in an attempt to reach your aesthetic goals. In that case, you might want to consider an eyelid lift, brow lift, or both.

If your area of concern is the eyelid area, eyelid surgery would be the likely solution. Fat and/or skin from and around the eyelids is removed during this procedure, making them less droopy and puffy. Eyelid lifts can be performed on your upper lids, lower lids, or both.

Whereas if your concern is around the forehead, eyebrows, and between the eyes, a brow lift may be the better option, as this procedure targets the skin and soft tissue in the forehead, addressing eyebrow contour and position of the brow.

To go over all of your options and determine if you should say goodbye to Botox and dermal filler and take the next step and explore a lift, you can schedule a consultation at Garza Plastic Surgery.

2023 Plastic Surgery Trend #5

Facelift

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists facelifts as the second most common procedure performed by its members in 2021 and 2022 and predicts the facelift trend to continue in 2023.

Much of the demand for facelifts in the last half-decade is due to surgical innovation & advanced techniques. Facelift results have come a long way compared to years past, and patients are now seeking them earlier and earlier to reduce maintenance and save money long term.

Of all the different facelift methods, the “mini facelift” has been the most requested in recent years and will likely remain the most sought-after facelift procedure in 2023, considering the current “less is more” trend.

The primary difference between a miniature facelift and a traditional facelift is the areas focused on. While the mini facelift focuses on the neck and the bottom third of the face, a full facelift focuses on the bottom two-thirds of the face and neck. A mini facelift is also less invasive since it involves less pulling than traditional facelifts while still smoothing wrinkles and tightening the skin without an unnatural frozen look.

If you aren’t quite ready for a full or mini facelift, FaceTite and PDO threading are excellent cost-effective non-invasive alternatives that are also expected to grow in demand in 2023.

FaceTite utilizes minimally invasive radiofrequency energy to melt fat and contour skin. The non-surgical procedure dramatically improves skin laxity on the face and neck, which was previously only attainable through a surgical procedure such as a facelift.

PDO threading also offers dramatic results and is another popular non-surgical alternative to a surgical facelift. During a thread lift, an aesthetician uses needles to strategically insert threads that pull back the skin and gently lift and tighten the face and neck. Additionally, a thread lift stimulates collagen production for further anti-aging benefits.

Which Face Tightening and Lifting Technique Is Best?

When it comes to a procedure such as a facelift, you should understand that despite technological advances, it is still considered a relatively invasive surgery. You should take your time and do your research before deciding to go under the knife for a facelift.

To make the best decision, it is best to get off of google and book an in-person consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon, so your questions can be thoroughly answered.

Here at Garza Plastic Surgery, we can look at your areas of concern and help you decide which cosmetic face-lifting or tightening procedure is best for you.

Conclusion

The popularity of specific plastic surgery procedures is influenced by many things. Social media influencers, celebrities, the economy and surgical innovation top the reasons for cosmetic procedure trend changes in 2023.

Just as fashion trends come and go, cosmetic surgical procedures do the same, with fads seemingly changing from one day to the next. But kinda like a perfectly tailored blazer will forever be timeless, some cosmetic surgical procedures, like breast augmentation, will most likely always top the plastic surgery trend list.

Regardless of what’s trending, between advanced techniques, the variety of aesthetic procedures available and the growing acceptance of surgically enhancing your appearance (come on, Taylor, admit it) – more people are choosing aesthetic surgery than ever before.

We expect 2023 to be a busy year here at Garza Plastic Surgery. Whether you are hopping on one of the 2023 plastic surgery trends or have a different cosmetic procedure in mind, we suggest you book your consultation today to ensure you get your desired operation date.
